Skills of Observation

Today we spent the day rearranging picture frames and getting our scrolls framed to hang on the wall. We are in the SCA, and awards often come with a medieval looking scroll to commemorate the award. I took our family picture down from above the couch. It's two years old and we are hoping to replace it in the next month anyway, but I thought the space would display some of our scrolls nicely. I placed it on the floor by the coffee table.

Kenny (4 years old) comes to get me and says "Mommy, you weren't married in this picture." I was stunned to say the least. I asked him how he knew and he pointed out that I wasn't wearing a wedding ring. (We got married about 6 months after the picture was taken).

It's so funny to me that I could place a bowl of cereal in front of him and he couldn't find it, but he can notice a detail on a photo like that and make the cognitive leap that we weren't married. He never ceases to amaze me

Tatted Butterfly Paperclip

String 16 seed beeds on tatting thread.

1st ring: 6ds, p(3 beads), 6ds, cl

2nd ring: 6ds, p(1 bead), 3ds, p(3 beads), 3ds, p(1 bead), 3ds, p, 6ds, cl

3rd ring: 3ds, p, 3ds, cl

4th ring: 6ds, p, 3ds, p(1 bead), 3ds, p(3 beads), 3ds, p(1 bead), 6ds, cl

5th ring: 6ds, p(3 beads), 6ds, cl

leave tails of thread while making tassel. Take two playing cards and wrap thread around narrow width 20 times. Cut all threads while holding together. With threads in bundle, lay in center of butterfly. Take remaining tails from tatting and tie in place. With separate thread, wrap base of tassel securely and finish off. Trim tassel to desired length.

Thread paperclip through top three picots.
Tip: If having trouble threading beads, dip 1" tip of thread in superglue and let dry, this hardens it enough to use like needle to put beads onto thread.

O Brother, When Art Thou

Today we were having a normal quiet afternoon. My dear husband, who loves to watch movies, asked if I would be interested in "O Brother, Where Art thou". Kenny says "That's too retro!"

We about died laughing. He's four years old! I can't believe how funny he is.

Late Valentine's

Kenny got a Valentine yesterday. I was also finishing up a decorative paperclip for my Mom. It inspired me to make this Valentine for her. The lace is tatting with a tassel attached for added impact.

So I was having dinner with our SCA Kingdom's current Queen a couple of weeks ago. We'd had a long day with the annual Costumer's Seminar. I taught a class on German Costume in the 1520's getting ready for this summer's Tailor Shop at the Lilies War in Kansas City. We were at a pizza place decompressing afterward. I had the most interesting "German Style" pizza. It had saurkraut, ham, italian sausage and I think pepper. I'm not sure on the last ingredient. Suprizingly good. I don't even like italian sausage. Anyway we were all talking and Jack felt the need to bring up my bad taste in movies.

The Queen knows the movie "Vegas In Space" AND she loves it. How glorious! I liked her before, but now she is the first person I have ever met who not only knows the movie, but actually likes it.

My son keeps telling me I am turning into an alien. Inspired by Vegas in Space, I got on ebay to try to find a fun wig to put on one morning before he wakes up so I can freak him out. I've decided that instead I am going to knit a sea monster mask I found on Ravelry. I can't wait to finish it. I may still buy a wig. I found one with lavender pony tails that is tempting me horribly. My husband wants to know where on earth I could possibly use it and I don't have an answer, but if I come up with an answer he better watch out.

Blog Trouble.

As my friends know, in the fall, a glass a grape juice was dumped on my laptop ending it's phenomenal run as my companion. It lasted 7 or 8 years so I can't be too sad. It did it's time.

So, my fabulous Texan best bud loaned me a computer to use that her husband got used somewhere. It's pretty good, but my husband got a second one out of the trash at his union hall. That is the computer I use for this. This one has a monitor attached to it that is easier for poor farsighted me to read. Sadly, this computer hates blogger. I keep trying to post and it keeps crashing. So wish me luck this time.
